September Eleven Attacks
One of Nostradamus’ most well-known prophecies that were theorised to have been true was the tragedy of 9/11. The event of 9/11 took place on the 11th of September in 2001, where the World Trade Centre in New York was attacked by four hijacked planes in a terrorist attack. This horrific event caused the loss of many lives and had sparked Nostradamus’ popularity in the 21st century. After the event translations of Nostradamus’ work had been circulating by email, one in particular had caused controversy.
PREDICTION: "In the city of God there will be a great thunder Two brothers torn apart by chaos, while the fortress endures The great leader will succumb The third big war will begin when the big city is burning." This particular “translation” of Nostradamus’ supposed work had gained the public’s attention. However, it was discovered that this prophecy had been spread as a false translation by a college student aiming to prove that a vague “prophecy” can always become relevant. This popular prediction, thought to be created by Nostradamus, was soon dismissed. |
However, a line from Nostradamus’ work, properly translated, seemed to directly describe the event of 9/11.
PREDICTION: "Earthshaking fire from the centre of the earth Will cause tremors around the New City. Two great rocks will war for a long time, Then Arethusa will redden a new river." This translation seemed to have related to the event through the “centre of the Earth” thought to be the World Trade Centre and “the New City” being New York. Furthermore, the two towers of the World Trade Centre that were bombed were believed to be the two great rocks. Despite the vagueness of the prophecy, it was believed by many that it was related to 9/11. From the devastating event Nostradamus had been able to receive more attention for his work and it can be considered to have kickstarted his prophecies becoming influential. |
